Er war jung, blutjung, als er 1954 in Memphis, Tennessee, zu Sam Phillips ins Sun Studio ging und seine ersten Aufnahmen machte. Und Elvis war ebenso jung, als er am 16. August 1977 im Badezimmer seiner Villa Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee, starb. Den "König" nannten sie ihn, sie tun es noch heute.

Zu jedem Todestag erscheinen neue Kompilationen seiner größten Hits, neueste Zusammenstellungen der tollsten Country-Songs und allerletzte Bearbeitungen aller Chartbreaker. Denn eine Geldmaschine ist Elvis eben auch. Alle, die irgendwie mit ihm zu tun hatten, erinnern sich – meist – liebevoll an ihn. Ob nun ehemalige Mit-Musiker, der Herreneinkleider, der alte Produzent oder alte Bekannte. Selbst seine Exfrau spricht in den höchsten Tönen von ihm – und die hatte ihn ja schließlich verlassen. Wegen eines Karatelehrers. Nur einer wird vielleicht heute noch sauer sein auf ihn: Jerry Lee Lewis, der selbst gern König gewesen wäre.

Eine "Lange Nacht" über Elvis Presley, der am 8. Januar 80 Jahre alt geworden wäre.
